A reflowable book. Clear limits.

EPUB 3 with real text and a reflowable layout. Pages are not simply converted into full-page images. A PDF describes where each element is drawn; it does not always include chapters, paragraphs, tables, or a recoverable reading order.

What is reconstructed

Headings are inferred from size, paragraphs from position, and simple lists and aligned tables from recognizable structure. The table of contents uses bookmarks or headings. HTTP, HTTPS, email links, and internal page destinations are retained when safe. Unicode text preserves accents and writing systems. The EPUB cover is generated from the book’s title; the result preview shows that same cover, included in the EPUB.

The interface language is separate from the book language and OCR language. Book settings can use PDF language metadata or an explicit language you choose. If no usable metadata is available, the book’s language is left unspecified rather than inferred from the interface. Generated navigation labels use Spanish for Spanish books and English otherwise, with language attributes where needed. The original text is not translated.

What needs review

Column order is inferred using heuristics. Notes and references are retained, but their relationship cannot always be verified. Line breaks, hyphenated words, tables without clear headers, and editorial layouts may change. Mathematical meaning is not verified: detected formulas are preserved as images. Detected graphics are also preserved as images. These images are not selectable text or fully accessible.

On-device OCR supports Spanish and English. It may misread letters, numbers, and formulas. The inventory counts recognized text; it does not guarantee that every word in a scan was recognized. Coverage checks cannot prove a perfect conversion. Compare the result with the original.

Checks

Each conversion checks fragment assignment, pages, XML, links, and resource availability. EPUBCheck is run on automated test files, not in the browser or on every download. The repository’s validation report lists completed and pending tests.

Reading apps and devices

Apple Books and Thorium are relevant EPUB 3 readers. Format validation does not replace opening and reviewing a book in them. Kobo has platform-specific CSS and EPUB handling. Send to Kindle accepts EPUB and converts it to Amazon’s format; this sends the file to Amazon and may change its presentation. Universal compatibility is not guaranteed.

Device limits

Up to 32 MB and 600 pages, one document at a time, converted into a single EPUB. Pages are processed one by one and released, so memory depends on the images and text kept, not on the page count: up to 64 MB of images per book. Per page: 6 million pixels and 45 seconds. Per conversion: 60 minutes. Long scanned books that need OCR are slow on phones; keep the screen on and the page open. These limits reduce resource use but cannot guarantee enough memory on every device. A modern browser with workers, WebAssembly, and canvas is required. If a document is rejected, keep the original PDF, split it, or export a simpler copy.

No garantizamos compatibilidad universal.
